ElsBurn The Journey 2023: Facettenreicher Single Malt aus (Likör-)Weinfässern
Zu den jährlich neu aufgelegten Editionen zählen die komplexen Abfüllungen von The Journey. Die Flaggschiffe ebnen, wie der Name schon sagt, Genießern den Weg in die Welt der Hammerschmiede.
The Journey 2023 wurde aus 95 Prozent hellem Gerstenmalz und 5 Prozent Chocolate-Malz mit Röstnoten gebrannt. Er reifte in ganzen sechs unterschiedlichen Fasstypen – von Sherry über Marsala bis GrandCru Bordeaux.
Das Resultat ist ein ausgesprochen vielschichtiger Single Malt. Mit fruchtig-würzigen Noten der europäischen Eiche, der verlockenden Süße von Toffee und Vanille sowie den für ElsBurn typischen Aromen von Mandarine und sanftem Mokka schmeckt er Liebhabern ebenso wie Einsteigern.
Tasting Notes:
Nase: Im ersten Moment fruchtig und würzig mit Eichennoten, die zu malzigen Tönen mit Kaffeenoten, dunklem Karamell und etwas Toffee übergehen. Feine, leicht ölige Rosinennoten und ein Hauch von angebackenem Keksteig mit feiner Vanille schließen das Geruchsbild ab.
Gaumen: Zunächst mild und sehr ausgewogen, mit Noten von Rosinen in Früchtekuchen, feiner Eiche und etwas Bitterorange. Kurz darauf entwickelt sich in langsamer Steigerung eine komplexe Mischung von feiner Vanillesüße, dichtem Toffee und dunklem Karamell. Abgerundet wird das Geschmackserlebnis durch einen ganz leichten Anflug von süßlichem Rauch, einer zarten, charakteristischen Mandarinennote und sanftem Mokka.
