ElsBurn The Journey 2023: Multifaceted single malt from (liqueur) wine barrels
The annually reissued editions include the complex bottlings of The Journey. These flagships, as the name suggests, pave the way for connoisseurs into the world of the hammer forge.
The Journey 2023 was distilled from 95 percent pale barley malt and 5 percent chocolate malt with roasted notes. It matured in six different cask types – from sherry to Marsala to Grand Cru Bordeaux.
The result is a remarkably complex single malt. With fruity and spicy notes of European oak, the enticing sweetness of toffee and vanilla, and the ElsBurn-typical aromas of mandarin orange and smooth mocha, it will appeal to both connoisseurs and novices.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Initially fruity and spicy with oak notes, which transition to malty tones with coffee notes, dark caramel, and a touch of toffee. Subtle, slightly oily raisin notes and a hint of baked cookie dough with delicate vanilla complete the aroma.
Palate: Initially mild and very balanced, with notes of raisins in fruitcake, fine oak, and a hint of bitter orange. Soon after, a complex blend of delicate vanilla sweetness, dense toffee, and dark caramel develops, gradually building up. The taste experience is rounded off by a very light hint of sweet smoke, a delicate, characteristic note of mandarin orange, and gentle mocha.

Delivery times
